The first Porsche Boxster rolled off the Stuttgart production line back in 1996 and by 97 it was outselling the 911 by double and quickly became one of the brands biggest success stories. It wasn’t however until 2012 that a Boxster would wear the “Spyder” badge as a tribute to the beautiful 718 RS Spyder of the 1960’s and signify its place at the very top of the Boxster range. The design language is distinctly Boxster but styling cues have been cleverly incorporated to separate this car from its siblings, the iconic “humps” that descend from the roll hoops and the GT3 style bonnet grille give the model a much more aggressive look to match its amped performance.

The 981 Spyder has a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat six which punches out a mighty 375BHP, that’s a 45BHP hike over the GTS as well as being 30kg lighter, ten millimetres longer and eleven millimetres lower.

In 2015, EVO Magazine’s Henry Catchpole awarded the 981 Spyder the coveted five star EVO rating after road testing the car, a rare accolade that few achieve and speaks volumes about this little back road weapon!
