2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
Information
It’s fair to say that Porsche were the pioneers of the Sports Utility Vehicle after taking a huge gamble back in 2002 in releasing the Cayenne, a 4x4 designed to offer all the practicalities of a Range Rover whilst staying true to Porsche’s sporting DNA.
It’s even more fair to say the first-generation Cayenne was not the prettiest model in the range and despite their best efforts to incorporate as much of the 996 design language into the SUV, it looked a little… odd. This however didn’t impact sales figures, quite the opposite in fact.
Ferry Porsche predicted back in 1989: “If we build an off-road model according to our standards of quality, and it has a Porsche crest on the front, people will buy it.” He would go on to be proved right and since 2002 the Cayenne has been one of the mainstays in the car manufacturer’s global success and in some recent years has outsold all other models in the range.
The Cayenne is now one of many models in the SUV sector with brands such as Bentley, Lamborghini, Maserati and now even Ferrari offering “Super SUV’s”, and with this increasing competition the Cayenne has had to adapt and evolve over the years to hold its own.
Porsche’s latest Cayenne Turbo is powered by a hybridised 4.0 litre V8 which combined, generate a whopping 739bhp, nearly twice the power of the first generation Cayenne Turbo! With a 0-60 time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 190mph this car is right in the mix against its more exotic rivals and all this performance and technology comes at a fraction of the price of the challengers.
Autocar - “ The super-SUV segment is no place for shrinking violets. Now Porsche dials it up to 11.”
EVO – “It’s the most extreme Cayenne Porsche has ever made, and thanks to the GT department it’s also the best.”
Top Gear – “It’s now beyond ‘fast’. The Turbo GT dwells up in the ‘this really shouldn’t go like this’ stratosphere of silliness.”
